About Me
My work explores the restless and epic nature of human experience. It engages mobility, climate change, and the individual perception of natural and social experiences as physical and existential phenomena. Painting offers me a way to represent the impact of these contemporary and quotidian processes as inescapable determinants of today's society.
I am a Colombian-born painter, artistically active for several decades, with a long exhibition hiatus due to professional career decisions. I work in oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil, and charcoal. I have exhibited my work in collective and solo exhibits in Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the United States (Boston, Davis). My last solo exhibition was at International House, Davis, 2013, and my last juried collective show was at the Museum of Northern California Art, Chico, 2024. I am also a Professor Emeritus of Sociology, University of California, Davis.
